True musicianship gives us a glimpse of the sublime. The composition, the lyrics, even the stories of how the creation came to be, all combine to shock listeners out of the mundane. When it comes to D’Angelo, there are no exceptions. His voice, style, lyricism, musicianship – are exquisite. You could hear his music in the cars of the dope boys and the preachers, the sanctified and the heathen—the lines between the sacred and secular blur and disappear. The Voodoo (Album) Experience is about honoring the transformative power of true musicianship and artistry.
We want people to leave feeling reminded of why they fell in love with D’Angelo’s music.
We want people to feel inspired to create their own experience that honors the culture of their youth that still serves them today.
We want to model what it looks like to “unbox” artists and allow them the space to display their full artistry, and say to them “we see, feel, and understand you.”
We are clear that everyone could use an “unboxing.” So we want people to feel what it means to truly express who we are, what we need, and honor what we gotta do in this life.
This experience is about giving people who were there, who came late, and are still coming to appreciate D'Angelo's craft, a place to be with his work, 25 years later.
